Alexandria was named after its founder Alexander the Great, who established the town in 331 B.C. Since its inception, Alexandria always enjoyed a privileged place in history and continued to develop throughout the ages. Today it is a vital commercial centre lying at the cross – roads of the main trading routes between the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe. Alexandria is renowned for its long stretches of white sandy beaches which extend for more than twenty miles and which have given the town its name "The pearl of the Mediterranean". MARSA MATRUH which lies 290 kms. West of Alexandria .This summer resort is unique among Egyptian for its absolute calm and beautiful natural scenery. Anthony and Cleopatra often visited Marsa Matruh. During World War II Rommel, the desert fox, spent there some time making a natural cave for his headquarters, This cave still attracts many visitors of Marsa Matruh. Alexandria gardens are as varied as they are beautiful. There are Montazah, Antoniades, Nuzha and the Zoological gardens, each with its own special characteristics. In addition to the above, Alexandria offers the Greco-roman Museum, the Catacombs and the famous Pompey's Piller.

Drive along the sea front to the Museum of Hydrobiology, Kait Bey castle and Mosque of al Mursi Abul Abbas. Then visit Pompey's Pillar, which is 99 feet high, and made of beautiful red granite. It was erected by Posthumous, the Roman prefect, in honor of Emperor Diocletian. Then make a short visit to the Catacombs, which date as far back as the 1st and 2nd centuries B.C. finally visit the Greco-Roman Museum where exhibits and relics tell of prosperity of Alexandria during the Greek and Roman Rule.
 
 
THE LIBRARY OF ALEXANDRIA:

The ancient library of Alexandria was reconstructed by building the new library in Selsela area at Shatby to become one of the greatest cultural and scientific centres specialized in the affairs, civilization, literature, sciences and arts of the area so as to attract scholars from all over the world. It lies beside the conference centre.
 
MODERN CITY & GARDENS

An enjoyable drive along the sea front (Corniche) The chatby Catacombs can be visited, if desired, while en route to the beautiful antoniades and Nuzha Gardens and the Zoo.
 
MONTAZH PALACE & GARDENS

Montazah Palace is indeed glittering pearl. It strands amidst woods of ever-green overlooking an enchanting beach. The first floor of the Place has been converted into a casino and the second into a museum. The way to the Palace provides the most agreeable motoring experience along the sea coast promenade (cornice) via Ramleh, Alexandria's residential quarter.

 
EL ALAMEIN CEMETERIES & BATTLEFIELDS

Al Alamein is about 100 miles west of Alexandria. En route, you will visit ST. Menas Sanctuary which is the oldest Christian monument in Egypt (4th to 6th century).Once a battlefield, today a desert cemetery where yesterday's enemies lie side by side in their eternal sleep. Three impressive Mausoleums (British, German and Italian) have been erected on that site and the visitor is overwhelmed by the thousands of crosses and epitaphs commemorating the heroes of World War II. Considering the long time this tour needs (about 8 hours). A picnic lunch (included) will be taken from the hotel to be consumed at the rest-house on the spot. Return to the hotel around sunset.
 
ABUKIR:

Abukir is situated eighteen miles east of Alexandria and was built on the site of the ancient city Canope. It contains the remains of a Temple dedicated to Seraphis besides relics connected with Bonaparte's expedition to Egypt.
 
WADI NATRUN MONASTERIES:

Leave Cairo at 8 a.m by car, pass the pyramids and join the desert road of Alexandria. Short stop halfway, 122 kms at the Rest House then turns left to reach Wadi (Valley) Natrun, 10 kms further, going through the kafr Daoud village and coast along many salted lakes. From 10 monasteries there are only four left, two of which will be visited, the Anba Beshaui monastery, the biggest and most beautiful, dating back to the 4th century, then proceed on foot to the St. "John Kame" known as Deir El Sourian monastery about 600 meters further. Built in the 9th century, it is the most important in the valley, with its 12 meters high walls and its wainscots full of inscriptions. After the visit proceed back to the rest house for lunch (included) then return to hotel. As the Wadi Natrun is halfway between Cairo and Alexandria this tour can start and/ or end either way.
